The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers dropped their volleyball season opener Tuesday at Temple Holy Trinity, 25-7, 25-15, 25-19.

“We improved with each game,” said first-year coach Kari Yeager.

“Esther Udonsi, a junior from Nigeria, played her first varsity game in America and had quite a performance. Cynthia Rivas, a junior from Mexico, had some stellar blocks. Our freshman setter, Emily Bloyd, did an awesome job for her first varsity game.

“Our motto this season is Raise the Expectations.”

Yeager cited the three-time state champion NCTA girls basketball team as their inspiration.
