The North Central Texas Pioneers ran their win streak to 19 games and moved within one victory of a state tournament berth with a 66-45 victory against Amarillo Ascension.

Stefan Rosic scored 28 points to lead the Pioneers (19-2), who are seeking to join the Lady Pioneers at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class A State Tournament in Mansfield this weekend. The NCTA girls are three-time defending TAPPS Class A state champions and are also one win shy of returning to state.

The Pioneers were playing Waxahachie Prep in Burleson last night with the winner advancing to state.

Four Pioneers scored in double figures as Raphael Rohlfs scored 13, Marvin Ivanovic scored 12, and Luis Rivas added 10.

“We got a playoff win. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win,’ said NCTA coach Kirby Rasco.

“We turned the ball over way too many times in the first half. AA played better defense than we have seen this season, gave us some problems early.”

Ascension trailed 35-15 at the half and closed to within 14 before the Pioneers pulled away again.
