Maypearl tops Tolar

January 4, 2014

The Tolar Lady Rattlers saw an early lead slip away as visiting Maypearl came away with a 54-43 victory Tuesday in a District 10-2A basketball game.

The Lady Rattlers (9-7, 2-2 in district) were outscored 38-20 over the course of the second and third quarters.

Hannah Peregrino led Tolar, posting a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Tolar was undone largely by 25 turnovers. The Lady Rattlers also struggled at the free throw line, going just 2-for-7.

Defensively, they had five players block a shot and five combined for eight steals.

“Maypearl had five games under their belt before playing us, and it showed. We have to come out ready to play, and seemed like it when we went on a 9-1 run in the first,” said Tolar coach Benita Carlton. “We let them rattle us instead of playing our game, and having composure.”
