Competing at state is an honor every high school athlete dreams of, but few get to experience. Seven Granbury athletes experienced that thrill last week in Austin.

In 4A tennis, the girls doubles team of Kate Bramlett and Elizabeth Morton became the first players from GHS to reach state since Betty Degan won the 2A singles title in 1962.

In 4A golf, the quintet of Travis Benson, Justin Largent, Austin Kinsey, Zac Wall and Briggs Berry competed on the Onion Creek Golf Course. They comprised the first GHS boys to compete at state since 2002, finishing seventh with a 598 (308-290) that featured their best round of the season on the second day.

Of the group, Benson, Largent and Kinsey are seniors, Bramlett and Morton are juniors, and Wall and Berry are sophomores.
