Lipan sending two golf teams to next round

Lipan controlled the day Monday at the District 16-A Golf Tournament at Holiday Hills in Mineral Wells.

Both the Indians and Lady Indians earned berths at the Region II Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird.

The Lipan boys won their division with a team score of 380. They also had the top two individuals as Colby Clinton and Trevor Hedeman each shot 89.

Clinton won in a playoff.

It is the Indians’ third consecutive district championship.

The Lady Indians took second in their division, shooting 507. They were led by Nicole Holtby, who was second among medalists with a 111.

Also for the Indians, Ben Ward shot 95 and Hunter Hightower came in at 107.

Also for the Lady Indians, Jennifer Waldrup posted a 122, Jasmine Yanez shot 127, and Ashlynn Scottino finished with a 147.

The top two teams from district advanced to regionals. From there the top three teams will advance to Austin May 2-3.

All four members of the Indians were on the varsity last season when they also advanced to regionals.

Unlike most teams, the Indians and Lady Indians have to count the scores of each of their players. Most teams have five players and are allowed to drop the lowest score after each round of a tournament.
