Lipan pulls away in OT

December 22, 2012

The Lipan Lady Indians had to work extra for their 15th victory of the season Tuesday, topping visiting Hico 57-49 in overtime.

Lipan improved to 15-2, but it was anything but easy for the Lady Indians. They saw a nine-point (30-21) halftime lead disappear, including a seven-point (38-31) advantage entering the final quarter of regulation.

In one of their two losses, 58-49 at Bowie, Lipan allowed a 12-point advantage to slip away in the final 10 minutes as the Lady Rabbits ended with a 30-9 run.

But the Lady Indians were not going to let this happen Tuesday. Despite Hico ending going on a 15-5 run to take the lead, Lipan regrouped, made a clutch shot, and used a stout defense to shut down Hico in OT.

Rhiana Michou forced overtime with a 3-pointer as regulation ended. Then, Lipan went on an 11-3 run.

Lady Indian post Shauna Coleman continued her torrid play of late. She scored 22, grabbed a dozen rebounds and had three blocks.

Lanie Roberts also almost had a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. She also had six steals and four assists, and Michou had a 12 points with seven assists.

Lipan launched 21 shots from 3-point range and hit six (29 percent) compared to a 14-for-32 night from 2-point range. Hico countered by going 8-for-26 shooting 2s (31 percent) and 7-for-26 on 3s (27 percent).
