Lipan’s Brenda Ibarra qualified for the Class Region II Tennis Tournament with a second-place finish in girls singles at the District 16-A Tournament last week.
The Region II Tournament was being held in in Abilene at press time Monday and Tuesday.
Ibarra fought back to win a playback match against an opponent from Strawn, 6-3, 6-3 to earn the regional berth. Ibarra had lost in the finals to the champion from Gustine, 6-2, 7-6 after opening the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over an opponent from Blanket and a 6-2, 6-2 semifinals win over a foe from Strawn.
In boys singles, Tanden Foust of Lipan placed fourth. He defeated an opponent from Blanket 6-1, 6-1 before losing to a Lingleville player in the semifinals 6-2, 6-2. In the third-place match, he also fell to a Lingleville player 6-4, 6-2.
The boys doubles team of Kyle Mercer and Tanner Richardson fell in the quarterfinals by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
