The Lipan Lady Indians began the cross country season by winning the first Hillbilly Relays. Coach Amber Branson termed the event a “great success.”
The race was a different format than usual. It was a 6-mile relay race, with teams having four runners. Each runner covered 1.5 miles.
Lipan’s quartet was led by Lanie Roberts, who clocked a time of 8 minutes and 47 seconds. Nicole Reid was next in 9:55, followed by Shelby Bontke in 9:58 and Catherine Thormann in 10:22.
Teams without four runners had athletes competing individually or in duos. They didn’t qualify for medals.
Lipan’s high school duo of Caden Herron and Ashlyn Scottino posted times of 12:06 and 12:53, respectively.
For the Lipan boys, Hunter Lewallen clocked a 10:11 and Jace Walker finished in a time of 10:23.
TOLAR’S WILLIAMS SECOND
Tim Williams of Tolar placed second in the Bluebonnet Invitational in Hico Wednesday. He clocked a time of 18:22 over 3.1 miles, finishing in what coach Casey Keith called a near photo finish.
Also for the Rattlers, Riley Osterman posted a time 23:08. For the Lady Rattlers, Shelby Newton had the top time of 19:25. over 2 miles.
