The Lipan Lady Indians improved to 2-0 in their new gym as they ran past Peaster 60-39.
Lipan, the No. 1 team in the state in Class A Division II by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, was led by Shauna Coleman with 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, while Lanie Roberts Roberts scored 14 points with seven steals.
The game was hardly the smoothest of contests. The teams combined for 70 turnovers (37 for Peaster, 33 for Lipan) and had a combined 45 steals (24 for Lipan, 21 for Peaster).
“We had way too many turnovers. You have to give Peaster credit. They played hard,” said Lipan coach Amber Branson.
“We were very frustrated with ourselves, and quit playing hard at times. When you’re having a bad game, you can’t do that. Good thing was we did what it took to get a win. That’s all that matters, and hopefully we learned something in the process.”
Lipan used a 12-2 run to take command of the game, turning a close contest into a 27-16 halftime advantage.
The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Greyhounds (1-1) in every quarter.
Lipan shot 51 percent from 2-point range and made three of nine 3-point attempts, while Peaster was limited to just 13-for-27 from 2-point range and 1-for-9 from long range. The Lady Indians also had nearly twice as many rebounds (30-16).
