The Tolar Lady Rattlers stepped outside of District 10-2A competition and traveled to Hico Saturday, coming away with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-16 victory.
“Hico was a good march for us,” said first-year Tolar coach Scotty Miller.
“I was happy with many aspects. We had an opportunity to get a look at some young players. Looking forward we have a lot of young talent coming up.”
Madison Prichard-Warren led Tolar at the net with eight kills, while Reagan Mabery added six. The two accounted for half of the team’s 28 total that was spread among nine players.
Mabery also had 15 digs to finish with a double-double. Madeline Dawson led the defense with 16 digs, and also served five of Tolar’s 11 aces.
Magen Collie (12) and Shelby Nunley (11) accounted for most of the team’s 24 assists.
The victory improved the Lady Rattlers to 9-16. They returned to 10-2A competition last night when they hosted Godley in their final home match of the season.
The Lady Rattlers are 1-5 in district. They finish with five consecutive road matches.
“As for the schedule, it is an extreme disadvantage for us,” said Miller. “I’m not sure how the schedule got approved, but it really doesn’t make much sense.
“We are going to continue to learn how to compete when things aren’t perfect, and enjoy improvement when it occurs.”
