Lady Rattlers win big in opener

November 9, 2013

The Tolar Lady Rattlers limited Hamilton to six points or less in each of the first three quarters Tuesday on the way to a 48-30 nondistrict victory to open the season.

Marlee Thomas paced the Lady Rattlers in scoring with 9 points, and added three assists.

Michaela Phillips was Tolar’s leading rebounder, with seven. Meredith Caudle anc Carly Knapp had a team-high three steals apiece, and Shelby Nunley led in assists with four.

“Hamilton was a pretty quick team,” second-year coach Benita Carlton said. “I felt like we handled their pressure well. There’s still some things we’ve got to get better at, but we also did some really good things at times.

“In saying that, it (was) the first game and everyone is getting used to their new roles on the team. We need to build from this, and continue to get better every game.”

Tolar led 24-10 at halftime, and 35-16 entering the final quarter.

Carlton said the Lady Rattlers’ game this weekend against Breckenridge was canceled. She said she is looking for another opponent to fill that opening.
