The Tolar Lady Rattlers made the debut of new head coach Benita Carlton a successful one Tuesday, defeating visiting Hamilton 60-47.
Hannah Peregrino led Tolar wtih 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Rattlers took control of the game early, leading by 10 at the half (29-19) and stretching their lead to 17 (43-26) after three quarters.
“It wasn’t a pretty win, but we’ll take it,” said Carlton. “I think our nerves got the best of us. We weren’t in sync offensively throughout the first half, and finally came through in the second half.”
The Lady Rattlers led by as many as 26 points with three minutes left in the game before Hamilton finished strong.
“I think our inexperience showed the last three minutes and we committed some careless fouls” said Carlton. “We’re young and learning.
“I think we had a good showing from our girls off the bench.”
In all, nine Lady Rattlers contributed to the victory.
In the third quarter, Tolar held Hamilton to a single field goal.
Five Lady Rattlers also combined to block six shots, led by Carly Knapp with two.
The Lady Rattlers are seeking a return to the postseason after seeing their streak of eight straight years in the playoffs come to an end in February.
