The Tolar Lady Rattlers had their ups and downs this volleyball season, but three of the definite “ups” were seniors Reagan Mabery and Madson Prichard-Warren, along with sophomore Hannah Lee.
Coaches in District 10-2A share this opinion as they named all three to the all-district team. Mabery and Prichard-Warren garnered second-team honors and Lee was honorable mention.
“Reagan, Madison and Hannah were a huge part of our season,” said first-year coach Scotty Miller. “They pretty much controlled about 90 percent of the serve-receive duties and rarely came off the court.”
Tolar finished with an 11-20 overall record and was 3-9 in District 10-2A, losing several close matches.
“This is a very tough district, but it showed how much work we have to do over the next year,” said Miller, whose team featured a young roster. “We understand we must improve as athletes and find some way to get into a gym and simply play volleyball.
“The girls worked hard, and I really do not believe we ever had a bad workout.”
District champion Godley was eliminated by state semifinalist (and 2012 champion) Brock in the third round, while fourth-place Whitney fell to Brock in bidistrict. Third-place Maypearl went to the second round, and runner-up Grandview pushed Boyd in bidistrict.
Prichard-Warren led the team in kills with 160 and was second in defensive digs with 235. Mabery led in digs with 273 and was second in kills with 129.
In addition, Mabery was second in assists (105) and aces served (43), while Prichard-Warren was second in blocks (20.5.).
Prichard-Warren also delivered 33 aces.
Lee led Tolar in aces with 56, along with posting 218 digs and 79 kills.
“Reagan and Madison were our captains and were fine examples for the young players to follow,” said Miller. “Hannah was solid at all times. She put everything out there, and we leaned on her speed quite a bit to save us.”
The three were also named to the academic all-district team, along with senior Carson King, senior Cheyenne Clark, sophomore Madison Dawson, junior Shelby Nunley, senior Meg Gilliam and sophomore Magen Collie.
“I am proud of all the girls and their effort,” said Miller. “I am excited about the fact we have a lot of players with great work ethics coming back. The competition has already started to see who will make the varsity squad.”
