The basketball playoff hopes for the Tolar Lady Rattlers improved Tuesday night with their 59-46 District 10-2A home victory over Whitney.
Hannah Peregrino was the top scorer for Tolar (11-10, 4-5 in district) with 16 points, and added seven steals. Shelby Nunley contributed 12 points – including a pair of 3-point buckets.
The Tolar girls were scheduled to take on Maypearl, the No. 23 team in the state in Class 2A, last night in Maypearl. They finish with games at home against Rio Vista Tuesday and at Grandview next Friday.
“We did what we needed to do tonight,” Tolar coach Benita Carlton said. “I was pleased with how we played on both ends of the floor. We played with lots of excitement, and we need to take this into Friday night’s game. It’s a big game for us. If we can pick up two wins this week, it will be to our benefit for our playoff hopes.”
Nunley, Peregrino and Carly Knapp each notched six rebounds on the night. Knapp blocked two shots and Nunley recorded five assists.
Tolar outscored Whitney 17-6 in the second quarter to build a 27-15 halftime advantage.
