Lady Pirates third at Haltom CC Meet

The Granbury Lady Pirates ran to third place and the Pirates took fourth at the Haltom Cross Country Meet recently.

The Lady Pirates scored 78 points, trailing Joshua with 25 and Azle with 35. The Pirates scored 121, behind Joshua (23), Azle (40) and Castleberry (65).

Lauren Hammonds had the highest finisher of any Granbury runner, taking sixth with a time of 22 minutes, 3 seconds over the 3.1-mile course. Rachel Perriello was 14th with a time of 23:34.

“Lauren ran a great race,” said Granbury coach Amber Ward. “The varsity girls continue to improve and run with more confidence.”

Andrew Reid led the Pirates, taking 16th with a 19:26 clocking. Hayden Copenbarger was 19th with a 19:44

“Andrew, Hayden, David (Henney) all stepped up and ran great races, all three breaking the 20-minute barrier, which is very tough to do on that course.

“It was a tough course with lots of ups and downs and turns. We ran well against our competition.”

The Lipan Lady Indians ran to second place at the Poolville Cross Country Meet recently.

Santo won the meet.

Lanie Roberts led the Lady Indians by finishing the 2-mile course in a time of 13 minutes, 50 seconds.

Also for Lipan, Catherine Thormann clocked a time of 15:33 for 14th. Nicole Reid finished in 16:03 for 19th, Bryanna Phelps took 21st with a 16:15, and Shauna Coleman placed 22nd in 16:17.

“The kids were very competitive,” said Lipan coach Amber Branson. “All ran another great race and are continuing to improve.”

The Lady Indians had won their first two meets, both hosted by Lipan.


Tim Williams’ fifth-place finish topped all Tolar runners at the recent Whitney Cross Country Meet. He clocked a time of 18:53 over 3.1 miles.

Also for Tolar, Darrell Boatman posted a time of 22:31.

Morgan and Marlee Thomas ran for the Tolar girls, posting times of 16:09 and 16:24 over 2 miles.
