Amber Ward got started on a second decade of qualifying runners for regional competition Saturday.
The Granbury High coach has qualified someone in each of her 11 years at the helm following the entire Lady Pirate team earning a spot at the 4A Region I Meet in Lubbock Saturday.
The Granbury girls placed second as a team in the District 7-4A Meet in Fort Worth this past Saturday. They were paced by four top-10 finishes.
Lauren Hammonds placed second, Emma Thomas was third, Rachael Perriello was ninth, and Tiffany Henney finished 10th. Two others cracked the top 20 as Rebecca Wright finished 13th and Cindy Casteneda was 18. Helena Linzy was 29th.
“I am very impressed with how our young girls stepped up and ran a great race,” said Ward. “They all showed true heart and competitive nature today, and it was an all-out team effort.
“They ran with confidence and their eyes on the regional goal.”
The Granbury boys were led by Andrew Reid in 23rd place, while Dylan Goosen was 25. David Henney placed 36th, Oscar Raygoza was 41, Dakota King took 42nd, Hayden Coppenbarger came in 45th, and Taylen Sullivan placed 47th despite running with a hurt hamstring.
“Very proud of all the kids,” said Ward. “The hard work they have put in pays off and shows with lots of improvement and PRs.”
At regionals, the top three teams and top 10 individuals will advance to state in Round Rock Nov. 9.
Also last week, the Lipan girls qualified for regionals, along with Tim Williams of Tolar.
