The Granbury Lady Pirates are all but back in the volleyball playoffs after sweeping Trimble Tech in Fort Worth Tuesday, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.
In fact, if things fell right last night, with them getting a win at Wyatt and other favorites posting wins, the Lady Pirates will head to Aledo having wrapped up their fourth consecutive trip to the postseason.
But if they want to win a third straight district championship, they will have to get a little payback Tuesday against Aledo. The Ladycats (29-4, 8-0) swept the Lady Pirates when the teams met in the first round in Granbury on Sept. 14.
The Lady Pirates (17-15, 7-1) have swept every district match, except Aledo. Meanwhile, Aledo has swept everyone.
Tuesday at Trimble Tech (4-13, 2-6) was business as usual for the Lady Pirates. From the outset they controlled the match both offensively and defensively.
Shannon Helm led play at the net with 13 kills. Breanna Crain paced the defense with 23 digs.
The Lady Pirates also had another strong serving game with a dozen aces, led by Aubrey Ezell with six.
“Breanna played solid from the back row all evening, another match of solid serve-receive and good defense,” said Lady Pirate coach Tammy Clark. “Karis (Beasley, 8 kills) attacked the line well, staying away from their strong middle blocker, which was a focal point in our game plan.”
The match at Trimble Tech was the first of five on the road in their final seven matches as the Lady Pirates opened the second half of district.
“We still have work to do to realize our goals, but I am certainly pleased with their efforts and the start (to the second half of district),” said Clark.
“This run of away matches will be good preparation for us as we will have to get into our routine of playing our game well somewhere else.
“With only two home matches left we are certainly going to get used to being on the road.”
