The Granbury Lady Pirates maintained their collision course for a matchup with defending state semifinalist Aledo with a 17-2 District 7-4A softball victory against visiting Trimble Tech Monday.
In four district games the Lady Pirates (8-3, 4-0 in 7-4A) have outscored their opponents 79-6. Aledo, also 4-0 in district, has outscored its foes 65-2.
Whitley Tipton hit two home runs in the same inning for the Lady Pirates, collecting three hits on the day and driving in three runs. Brooke Massey also had three hits, including a double, with three RBIs, and Avery Villa had three hits.
Ashley Edes also had a pair of hits, including a triple, and drove in five runs.
The Lady Pirates are stepping outside of league play today to host rival Stephenville at 2 p.m. in a game for breast cancer awareness. With a game at Aledo next Friday, Granbury coach Mallory Smith said the tougher matchup is coming at the right time.
“It couldn’t come at a better time,” she said. “We are very excited to be 4-0 in district, but we know what we are preparing for and what it will take for us to get there.
“Every game is used for preparation for that moment, and these girls keep growing closer on and off the field.”
