The North Central Texas Academy Lady Pioneers stormed out to a huge lead early and went on to defeat their hosts, Wichita Christian, 59-13 in a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools District 2-A basketball game.

The Lady Pioneers led 24-0 after the first quarter and 41-4 at the half.

Esther Udonsi led NCTA with 31 points, while Carolina Bianchi added 14. Udonsi narrowly missed posting a double-double as she also finished with nine rebounds. Bianchi also had eight steals and seven assists.

NCTA (8-5, 2-0 in district) is ranked 12th in the state among small private schools.

The Lady Pioneers are seeking a fourth consecutive TAPPS Class A state championship.

“The girls are really starting to play as a team,” said first-year coach Jodie Stevens. “They have high expectations for this year and they are working hard to meet them.”

Emily Britt, who led the Lady Pioneers to the 2013 championship, is now an assistant with Granbury. Tammy Evans, who coached them to the first two titles, is at Arlington Grace Prep.
