Lady Indians wrap up perfect 17-A first half

Indicative of the score, the Lipan Lady Indians controlled every phase of their game against Gordon Friday in a 75-29 home victory.

Lipan (23-3, 5-0 in 17-A) is ranked second in the state in Class A Division II by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Gordon was simply no match.

The Lady Indians jumped out to a 17-3 lead after the opening quarter and outscored the Lady Longhorns in every stanza.

Lanie Roberts led Lipan with an across-the-board dominant performance. She scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds, had six assists, six steals and blocked three shots.

The Lady Indians ran their district winning streak to 21 games. They are seeking a third consecutive district championship (they actually shared the 2010-11 title with Newcastle, whom they later defeated at regionals to reach state).

Lipan was sizzling from 2-point range (20-for-34, 59 percent), but was also solid from 3-point range (9-for-23). Five players made a 3-pointer for Lipan, led by three from Rhiana Michou.

The Lady Indians also had a 26-18 rebound advantage, with 13 offensive boards, and forced 34 turnovers. They had 22 steals.
