Lady Indians win flip, enter as 17-A top seed

The Lipan Lady Indians will enter the Class A Division II playoffs as the top seed from District 17-A after winning a coin flip with co-champion Strawn Wednesday morning.

Lanie Roberts led Lipan (27-4, 9-1) with 32 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and five steals in Tuesday’s 69-32 win at Gordon. The Lady Indians shot a blistering 68 percent (21-31) from 2-point range.

Lipan will have 6-foot junior post Shauna Coleman back for the postseason, coach Amber Branson said. She missed the past three weeks.

With Coleman back, Branson feels the Lady Indians can make a third straight trip to state.

“I think we got stronger, and now that she’s back we’re only going to be that much better,” she said. “I’m ready to go back to Austin.”
