Lady Indians tops in Tenaha

The Lipan Lady Indians won their third tournament of the 2013-14 basketball season and ran their winning streak to 21 games Saturday by capturing the championship of the Tenaha Tournament.

The Lady Indians (21-1) disposed of Winnsboro 64-49 in the finals.

Shauna Coleman was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Lanie Roberts and Kayla Wheeler were named to the all-tournament team, and Tallen Halliday received a $200 scholarship.

Coleman scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in the final. Roberts led the Lady Indians with 30 points and nine rebounds.

Coleman averaged 19.5 points and eight rebounds, while Roberts averaged 25.5 points and 6.25 rebounds.

The Lady Indians led Winnsboro by only 43-41 going into the final quarter. However, a 21-8 Lipan run sealed the victory.

The Lady Indians are ranked second in the state in Class A Division II by the Texas Associatiion of Basketball Coaches. Winnsboro entered the contest as No. 16 in Class 2A.

The Lady Indians forced 95 turnovers in the four games, committing just 45 of their own.
