Lady Indians romp in warmup contest

In a battle of teams that could find themselves in Austin competing for a state championship next month, the Lipan Lady Indians made short work of Mason, 66-44, in a warmup game Saturday in Glen Rose.

The Lady Indians (28-4) entered are ranked sixth in Class A Division II by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and are seeking a third straight trip to Austin. Mason (29-5) is No. 3 in Class A Division I/

The game also featured the return of Shauna Coleman. Lipan’s 6-foot junior all-state post had missed the previous three weeks, but returned to score 22 points and grab 10 rebounds Saturday.

“It was like she was never out,” said Lipan coach Amber Branson. “None of them missed a beat. Great win going into the playoffs.”

Freshman Lanie Roberts scored 17 and pulled down eight boards.

The Lady Indians shot a solid 58 percent from 2-point range (19-for-33). They held Mason to 24-percent from 2-point range (8-34).
