March 16, 2013

The Lipan Indians split their first two games of the baseball season, winning 7-2 at Ranger and getting no-hit in a 12-2 loss at Santo.

In the win over Ranger, pitcher Colby Clinton tossed a two-hitter and struck out 17. He also blasted a double.

Lance Ferguson led Lipan in hitting, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in.

The Indians were a perfect 18-for-18 in stolen bases in the two games, including stealing a dozen against Ranger. Joey McFadden had five steals in the two games, while Hunter Hightower stole four.

Lipan batters drew 14 walks.

“We got off to a good start to the season against Ranger. We hit the ball well and Colby gave us a really good outing,” said Lipan coach T.J. Nolen.

“The game against Santo really brought our feet back to the ground and showed us the work that needs to be done.

“We only have two seniors, so we have a good young core. Our future is very bright. I’m excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.”
