Indians hold off Hico by 4

The Lipan Indians are going into the holiday break on a positive note as they held off Hico 49-42 Tuesday night, thanks to some clutch free throw shooting.

Lipan improved to 6-9 and once again played a larger team, which has been the meat of their schedule this season.

“We still don’t have it all worked out, but each game we’re learning more,” said Lipan coach Cody Chandler. “A win here gives us a little more confidence heading into our break. Now it’s time for their minds and bodies to relax a little.”

Lipan led 31-18 at the half, but Hico closed to within 45-41 with just over two minutes remaining. Then, Tanner Richardson and Colby Clinton each sank a pair of free throws to secure the win.

Richardson led Lipan with 15 points.

The Indians and Lady Indians are off until Dec. 27 when they begin play in the Teneha Holiday Hoops Tournament.
