Ho hum, Lady Pirates coast in another rout

For the first time in three district basketball games an opponent reached double digits against the Granbury Lady Pirates.

It still didn’t prevent the contest from being a rout as Granbury defeated Western Hills 56-29 Tuesday at the James Wann Sports Center.

The Lady Pirates (11-10, 3-0 in 7-4A) had defeated their first two league foes, South Hills and O.D. Wyatt by scores of 88-6 and 52-9.

Lauren’s Clough’s three consecutive 3-pointers midway through the first half triggered a 14-2 Granbury run that lifted the Lady Pirates to a 25-6 lead.

In an anomale, Granbury started the game by missing its first 11 shots from 2-point range, but hit seven of its first nine from 3-point range.

“Our guards have been working on outside shots, and it’s paying off,” said Clough with a grin.

Post Lilley Vander Zee led the Lady Pirates with 19 points. Shelby Cline topped all rebounders with nine.

The Lady Pirates finished the game shooting 50 percent (8-16) from 3-point range and 46 percent (13-for-28) fron 2-point range. Western Hills (5-14, 1-2) hit just 13 of 34 shots (38 percent) and attempted just one free throw.

The Lady Cougars were also outrebounded 33-12 and forced into 20 turnovers compared to 11 for Granbury.
