On the heels of a history-making season, the Granbury High tennis team was well-rewarded by the coaches in District 7-4A.

Seventeen members of the squad were chosen for the all-district team by the league’s coaches. Just as they swept most of their district opponents, the Pirates also swept many of the honors.

Kate Bramlett was named the district’s most valuable player for a second consecutive season. In addition, Alex Jenny, Keelyn Taylor and Thomas Tigner were chosen as newcomers of the year.

The Pirates qualified for the 4A Region I Tournament for a second straight season, something that has never been done before in the history of the program. They were second to Aledo in the regular season and then won the district tournament.

“I have never been prouder of our kids,” said coach Jeff Bramlett. “We were literally only five points away from beating a very good Aledo team that was loaded with super championship tennis players who have played their whole life.

“After that, our kids went on to narrowly lose (11-8) to Saginaw at regionals, and Saginaw came close to knocking off Wichita Falls Rider, who went on to win regionals.”

Saginaw ended the season ranked 25th in the state, and coach Bramlett said his team is closing in on that status.

“I think our kids proved to our fans just how close we were to being a top-25 program. These all-district awards are but a reflection of that,” he said.

Granbury received eight first-team honors, six second-team, and seven honorable mentions.

“We would have been hard-pressed to have done any better,” said coach Bramlett.
