Granbury shows no rust from layoff

The Granbury Lady Pirates extended their winning streak to six games and remained undefeated in District 7-4A Tuesday with a 54-22 rout of visiting O.D. Wyatt at the James Wann Sports Center.

Bryce Frank and Morgan Northcutt led Granbury with 14 points and four steals each. Frank also grabbed 13 rebounds.

TheLady Pirates (6-4 overall, 2-0 in District 7-4A) were also 20-for-26 as a team from the free throw line.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but icy roads forced postponement to Wednesday. Because it was a District 7-4A contest, the game had to be played at the next available date and there could be no cancellation.

The Lady Pirates are playing in their own Van Griffith Kia Classic this weekend, meaning several games in just four days.

“We need to play, though,” said Lady Pirates coach Leta Andrews. “It’s been forever since we’ve seen competition.”

The last time the Lady Pirates played before Wednesday was a 72-19 thumping of South Hills in Fort Worth on Dec. 3. They were scheduled to play in the Cowtown Classic last weekend, but the ice storm forced cancellation of that event.
