Granbury runners wrap up solidly

The Granbury Lady Pirates ended the cross country season by competing in the 4A Region I Meet in Lubbock Saturday.

Also, for the Granbury boys, Kristian Samaniego was making a return trip to the event. He finished 86th individually, posting a time of 17 minutes and 34 seconds over the 3.1-mile course.

Samaniego won the District 7-4A championship as a junior and was third this season.

The Lady Pirates were led by Alex Hammond and Cindy Castenada, each of whom clocked a 22:26. Mykayla Carpenter was right behind in 22:35, followed closely by Rachel Perriello with a 22:38.

Also for the Lady Pirates, Adrianna Booth ran a 23:19, Sarah Perriello a 24:12, and Alexandra Reid 25:50.

Reid ran after having to pull out of the District 7-4A Meet with an injury 2.5 miles into the race.

The Lady Pirates qualified for regionals by finishing third in district. It’s the 10th consecutive season in which Ward has taken runners to regional competition.

“I think these times are great considering the three hills in the race,” said Ward. “I’m proud of these girls.”
