Granbury offense erupts in two wins

April 10, 2013

Nothing like scoring 26 runs in a pair of district victories to cure what is ailing you.

That’s what the Granbury Pirates baseball team did last weekend, winning 9-1 Friday at Fort Worth South Hills and blasting FW O.D. Wyatt 17-0 Saturday at Tidwell Field.

The Pirates (12-10, 6-3 in 7-4A) banged out 35 hits in the two wins, including six doubles, four triples and Daniel Arnett’s second home run of the season.

But most important, said coach Brad Hart, was winning back-to-back games in convincing fashion after losing three straight the previous week. This included heartbreaking losses at home to Aledo (7-4 in eight innings after leading 4-2 in the seventh) and at Arlington Heights (2-1).

“I feel like we should have won both of these, so it’s satisfying for our guys to go out and make it happen,” he said.

“It’s nice to see us have a lot of hits in both games, too.”

MIles Wagner was perfect at the plate during the weekend, going 7-for-7 with a triple, walk and seven runs batted in. Nathan Hickey and Caleb Bendewald each had five hits, including two doubles by Bendewald.

“These games have helped some of our guys get dialed back in and being confident at the plate, and we will need that from here on out.”

Hickey also hurled a two-hitter against Wyatt, striking out 10 and walking just one before the game was called after five innings.
