The Granbury Pirates opened the powerlifting season by hosting a meet recently.
Weatherford took the team title, scoring 66 points, with Granbury second with 45 and Saginaw Chisholm Trail third with 29.
A dozen Pirates placed in the competition, led by Daniel Valdez, first in the 181-pound division; Mike Milson, first in the 198-pound class; and Jordan Papke, first in the 275-pound class.
Valdez lifted a total of 995 pounds, Milson totaled 1,080, and Papke 925.
Milson also placed third as best lifter in the 181 and above competition.
Jesse Valdez was runner-up at 181 pounds with 890 pounds lifted. Briley Pena lifted 835 to take second in the 275 division, and Brandon Lane’s 1,135 pounds was second at 242.
Third-place finishers were Eugene Geis at 148 with 775 lifted and Landon Lambert at 242 with 975 pounds.
Finishing fourth in their respective divisions were Zach in 148 with 740 pounds and Alex Balboa at 242 with 930 pounds.
James Milson (875 pounds) and Wyatt Everett (755) were fifth in the 198 and 220 divisions, respectively.
The Pirates will compete tomorrow at Weatherford.
