For three quarters the Tolar Lady Rattlers had trouble scoring points Tuesday.
Still, their defense kept them in the game against perennial toughie Godley in their District 10-2A basketball game in the Lady Rattlers’ gym.
In the end, however, Godley escaped with a 35-33 victory, bringing to an end the Lady Rattlers’ three-game winning streak.
Hannah Peregrino led Tolar with 19 points and seven rebounds.
It was also the first district loss for Tolar, which fell to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.
“We got off to a slow start, and they hit some 3s early,” said Tolar coach Benita Carlton. “Overall we played really hard. We need to keep working hard, and keep focusing on our goal. “
Godley took a 22-15 halftime lead. In the third quarter, the Tolar defense clamped down and held the Ladycats to just two points.
However, Godley’s defense was almost as stingy. Tolar managed just five points of its own. Still, it was enough to close their deficit to 24-20.
In the final quarter, the Lady Rattlers had their chances, but couldn’t overcome 18 turnovers.
The Lady Rattlers had a strong shooting night from 2-point range, hitting 12 of 25 shots (48 percent), but were 0-for-5 from 3-point territory.
The Lady Rattlers were playing at Whitney last night and are then off until they host Maypearl on New Year’s eve.
