The Tolar Lady Rattlers’ postseason chances took a hit Friday night with a 47-39 home loss to Godley.
The Lady Rattlers (13-13, 4-4 in 10-2A) were outscored 20-6 in the opening quarter, so their second-half rally wasn’t enough. Tolar trailed by 16 points (34-18) at the end of the third quarter, and outscored Godley 21-13 in the fourth.
“The first quarter hurt us,” said Tolar girls coach Benita Carlton, whose squad held Godley to four points in the second quarter. “I think nerves got the best of us. They made us play in a hurry, and we rushed some shots. We came out in the second half and executed offensively, just a little too late.”
Hannah Peregrino was Tolar’s leading scorer with 13 points.
Godley leads the girls district standings with a 5-2 mark. Maypearl is second at 5-2, and Whitney is next at 5-3. With four regular-season contests left, Carlton has not given up on playoff hopes, even though the teams have already entered the second half of play in district.
“We have to beat Whitney and Maypearl, I think, to have a chance,” Carlton said. “We still also have Grandview (5-3) left. There’s a possibility for a tie.”
