GHS v’ball wins again at home

The Granbury Lady Pirates continued their dominant play at home this season, dropping Fort Worth Arlington Heights in three games in a District 7-4A volleyball match Friday evening.

Granbury was in total control from the outset, winning the first game 25-10 and the second 25-13. Heights put up a stronger battle in the third game, but to little avail as the Lady Pirates finished the sweep 25-21.

The Lady Pirates (26-4 overall) improved to 2-1 in district, dropping the Lady Jackets to 10-11 and 2-1, as are Western Hills and Trimble Tech. Aledo leads the district with a 3-0 record.

Granbury is 11-0 at the James Wann Sports Center this season. Karis Beasley led the Lady Pirates. She had a double-double in kills (13) and defensive digs (13).

“We played strong,” said Lady Pirate coach Tammy Clark. “I continue to see improvements.”

The ultimate result Clark and the Lady Pirates would love to have is a third district championship in four years. To do so, they are going to have defeat Aledo when the Ladycats come to town on Oct. 8. Aledo swept Granbury to open district play.

But Clark isn’t focusing on the Oct. 8 showdown yet.

“I am so proud of the girls for continuing to self-evaluate and staying focused on each match at hand,” she said.
