GHS girls close in on playoffs

It has been said the Granbury Lady Pirates play six basketball games (against Aledo, Trimble Tech and Arlington Heights) and eight practices in District 7-4A.

The Lady Pirates held their latest “practice” Friday night, an 86-37 victory against O.D. Wyatt at Billingsley Field House in Fort Worth.

“It was a fun game. All of the players had a good time running the floor,” said Lady Pirate coach Leta Andrews.

The Lady Pirates (15-9 overall) moved within a couple of victories of clinching a playoff berth, improving to 7-2 in District 7-4A. A win at home last night, combined with a victory at Southwest Friday, puts Granbury into the postseason.

The top four teams in district advance to the playoffs. Granbury is currently in third place.

As for Friday, there was little doubt as to the outcome after the Lady Pirates raced out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. They steadily increased their advantage from there.

Bryce Frank continued her torrid play of late, scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, game-highs with both. She also delivered five assists. Amber Strange also came close to a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.

“Our goal is to perform to our maximum effort for 32 minutes,” said Andrews.

In all, the Lady Pirates grabbed 37 rebounds distributed among seven players. Twenty-two assists were divided among six players, and nine players combined for a dozen steals.
