GHS drops just one in Sherman tourney

Shortly after the teams battled to a 0-0 tie earlier in the day, the Granbury Pirates easily disposed of Richardson 14-2 to wrap up play in the Sherman Baseball Tournament Saturday.

In all, the Pirates (4-4-2 on the season) won three games, lost one and tied two in the tournament.

After opening with a 2-2 tie against Lake Dallas and a 5-0 loss to Sherman, they defeated North Lamar 8-7 and John Paul 14-5.

Offensively, the Pirates were led by Nathan Hickey who had 11 hits over the weekend, including a 4-for-4 performance with a double and three RBIs against John Paul. Landon Gray had nine hits, including a 4-for-4, double, two-RBI outing against John Paul and going 3-for-4 with an RBI in the second Richardson game.

In the 0-0 tie with Richardson, Matthew Hickey pitched a seven-inning complete-game three-hitter. Payton Rhodes pitched six innings of two-hit ball with no earned runs against Lake Dallas.

Granbury outhit Lake Dallas, but the Pirates also committed six errors.
