Ditch the workout, join the party.
That is the marketing slogan for Zumba fitness.
Part dance, part aerobics, Zumba is a routine that works almost every muscle in the body. The whole idea is to shed fat without getting bored.
The beat of the music and the unique movements maintain the fun energy. The only rule is to keep moving. The more you exert yourself, the more you get out of the hour-long workout.
As the participant goes through both fast- and slow-paced movements, the heart pumps blood more, thereby improving both physical condition and the function of the heart. Changing the pace every now and then nonstop will help rev up your metabolism. As a result, your body continues to burn fat even when you’re at rest.
Aqua Zumba is also offered. Aqua Zumba is easier for those with bad knees and backs.
Zumba classes are Monday at 6 p.m. at American Town Hall, Wednesday at 6 at Langdon Center, Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Lambert Branch Park, and Aqua Zumba Wednesday at 7:15 at the city pool.
