G’bury tennis opens solid at home

February 2, 2013

The Granbury High varsity tennis team began the spring season by hosting the 377 Classic last weekend.

Pirates and Lady Pirates captured three first-place awards in the tournament.

Elizabeth Morton took the top prize in Girls Singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the final.

In Girls Doubles, Alyssa Tigner and Megan Wright took first, outlasting their opponents 6-4, 7-6 in the title round.

In Mixed Doubles, Kate Bramlett and Peter Mueller teamed to take first, completing their run with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the final.

“Total domination,” said Granbury coach Jeff Bramlett. “If we kept team totals we would have won by overall team points.

“We won three out of five events and finished very high with the other players competing.

“A very good start. I just don’t want to peak too early. We have to be playing our best in April, but a very good start and fun to do it in front of our home crowd.”
