The Cornerstone Crusaders and Cleburne Christian combined for 166 points Friday as Cleburne came away with an 89-77 victory.

Cornerstone (2-3) was done in largely by the one quarter in which defense somewhat prevailed. Cleburne (4-1) outscored them 14-6 in the third.

“This game was great for our young program because it is the first time that we have scored greatly against a really good team,” said Cornerstone coach Bobby Johnson. “With the exception of two stops early in the game they had no answer for our offense. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an answer for their offense either.”

Cornerstone amassed 700 yards of offense, 354 rushing. Brendon Brawley rushed for 263 yards and four touchdowns, and passed for 237 yards and five more TDs.

“Brendon did a great job at spread back. It is fun watching him develop,” said Johnson. “Jared Rudd made several aggressive blocks downfield to make some of these touchdowns possible,” said Johnson. “Josh Beaird had a great game on both sides of the ball. He did a great job on kickoff runbacks.”

Beaird returned a kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown.
