The Cornerstone Crusaders got 299 all-purpose yards from Josh Beaird and 266 all-purpose yards from Brendan Brawley in a 79-64 victory against Johnson County Sports Association in Cleburne Friday.
Beaird, who also scored three touchdowns, rushed 13 times for 150 yards, caught five passes for 56 yards, and returned four kickoffs for 93 yards.
Brawley rushed 10 times for 100 yards, passed for 104 yards, and returned a kickoff 62 yards. He also accounted for a pair of touchdowns.
Cornerstone improved to 4-1, with the lone loss being to two-time defending Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship Six-Man Division II state champion Azle Christian in Azle.
Cornerstone is ranked sixth in the state among TCAF teams, while Azle Christian is the top-ranked squad. This is Cornerstone’s first season in TCAF after moving over from the Texas Christian Athletic League, in which they played the previous two seasons.
“I thought the boys played really well,” said Cornerstone coach Bobby Johnson of Friday’s win. “We were able to get the stops that we needed and were able to move the ball well.
“We had three starters out with injury, but the players that we moved up from the JV played great. I’m proud of them.”
The Crusaders are home this week against Waco Parkview. It is Cornerstone’s homecoming.
