Crusaders fall short in another comeback

October 3, 2012

For a second consecutive week the Cornerstone Crusaders were on the verge of rallying for an exciting football victory.

And for a second straight week they came up short, this time when time ran out and they were on the Fort Worth Nazarene 20-yard line in a 66-60 loss.

The Crusaders (2-3) rallied from a 37-18 halftime deficit to take a 60-58 lead with two minutes remaining. Then, Nazarene regained the lead with 30 seconds to go.

“We started out really slow,” said Cornerstone coach Bobby Johnson. “We played an unbelievable second half.”

Quarterback Brendan Brawley led the rally, going 12-for-17 for 392 yards and six TDs. Forrest Copenhaver (5-135, 2 TDs) and Jonathon Delzeit (4-160, 2 TDs) combined for nine catches.

Josh Beaird (21) and Dylan Overstreet (15) combined for 36 tackles to lead the defense.

The previous week the Crusaders fumbled the ball away at the Lingleville 40 late in a 39-34 loss.
