Crusaders cruise in shortened contest

The Cornerstone Crusaders’ football game with Aggieland Home School was cut short by lightning Friday.

But they didn’t need much time to dispose of their opponent, winning 36-6.

Forrest Copenhaver passed for 91 yards and a touchdown, along with rushing for 32 yards. Josh Beaird led all rushers in the contest with 59 yards on just eight carries.

In addition, Copenhaver scored three touchdowns and had six points in points after touchdowns, including a two-point kick. He and Beaird also combined for 13 tackles with six and seven, respectively.

“I felt like we played below our abilities, but having said that, Forrest and Josh played well,” said Cornerstone coach Bobby Johnson.

“Also, Tyler Ives played well.”

Ives caught seven passes for 76 yards and three touchdowns. He also had nine tackles and five sacks.

Logan Weems led all tacklers with 13, and he scored a touchdown.

“I will be calling up some JV to give them a shot this week, and to provide some competition for positions,” said Johnson.
