Crusaders back at state tourney

The Cornerstone Crusaders are back at the state tournament.

This year it’s the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship State Tournament this weekend at Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park.

Last season Cornerstone reached the final four of the Texas Christian Athletic League.

The Crusaders (19-3) were playing Odessa Latter Rain yesterday, with the winner advancing to today’s championship game at 4:30 p.m. against the winner between Azle Christian and Lakeland Christian.

“We are very excited to be back in the final four for a second consecutive year,” said Cornerstone coach Tyler Johnson after his Crusaders disposed of Joshua Christian 80-63 Monday in the Region I championship game at Crossland Ninth Grade Center.

“We have been very blessed. With that said, the boys are focused and want to exceed what they did last year.”

Forrest Copenhaver led Cornerstone (19-3) with 24 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Shadd Cole had 19 points and six rebounds, and Brendon Brawley scored 17 points with 15 rebounds.
