This season, the top four finishers in each district track meet will advance to an area meet, from which the top four go to regionals.
The area meet is all-finals. Eight competitors from two corresponding districts compete in one event, with the top four advancing. For example, the four regional qualifiers could all be from Granbury’s District 7-4A or Tolar’s 10-2A.
“It does add a meet to get ready for regionals, but you can always get knocked out of regionals at this meet,” said Granbury boys coach Jodie Scott.
Tolar was in Class A for years, and that level has done this for a long time. Coach Gregg Lee likes the adjustment to all levels.
“Some of the best meets we have had were some of those 1A area meets,” he said. “It also helps ensure a higher quality of competition advances to the regional meet.
“I may be in the minority, but I think it is a good thing.”
