Big start paces rout for Lipan

January 15, 2014

The Lipan Lady Indians won their 24th consecutive game Friday, leaving little doubt of the outcome after the opening quarter, in a 93-37 rout of Gorman.

The Lady Indians led 45-8 after the first quarter. That’s an averae of nearly six points per minute.

The Lady Indians improved to 24-1 overall and 3-0 in District 17-A. On a 24-game win streak, Lipan is the No. 1 team in the state in Class A Division II.

Their only loss is to Brock, the five-time defending Class 2A state champions.

And if Gorman thought the Lady Indians were going to cool off after the opening stanza, they were mistaken. Lipan finishgd 37-for-47 from 2-point range (79 percent) and 6-for-13 from 3-point range (46 percent).

Lanie Roberts led Lipan with 28 points, while Shauna coleman added 16.

The Lady Indians had 25 assists as a team, led by Kylee Cross with seven. They also had 27 steals, with Tallen Halliday grabbing seven.

Lipan’s defense forced Gorman into committing almost as many turnovers (34) as they had points.

The Lady Indians were hosting their district nemesis Strawn last night. The Lady Greyhounds split their two district games with Lipan last season, with the teams sharing the league title.
