On the heels of their third state tournament appearance in four seasons, the two players who led the Lipan Lady Indians there were recently named all-state.

Senior post Shauna Coleman and sophomore guard Lanie Roberts were honored recently by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as part of the Class A Division II Girls All-State Team.

The team is chosen by coaches from across the state.

For the 6-0 Coleman, it is a third consecutive year to be so honored. Roberts was also honored last season as a freshman.

“I think this is a great honor. All individual honors are important, but also come because you are part of a great team,” said Lipan coach Amber Branson.

Coleman and Roberts were the cornerstones of the Lady Indians going 36-2 and reaching the state semifinals. They were eliminated by a 57-41 loss to Nazareth.

The Swiftettes won the 19th state championship in their history the next day.

Coleman averaged a double-double (16.5 points, 10.1 rebounds). She also posted 2.8 steals and 2.2 blocks per game in being named the District 17-A Defensive MVP.

Roberts was the district’s overall MVP after averaging 23 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 5.4 steals.

Roberts was also named to the All-State Tournament Team.

Along with the all-state accolades, Coleman and Roberts were named Class A Division II All-Region III by the TABC. They are two of five area players to be selected.

From Lipan, senior Trevor Hedeman and sophomore Lance Ferguson were named Class A Division II All-Region III.

Northcutt averaged 17.5 points, 4.6 assists and 6.3 rebounds. She was a part of four Lady Pirate playoffs team at Granbury High, advancing to the second round twice, the third round once, and the regional semifinals (fourth round) in 2012.

Northcutt also set the Lady Pirate record for consecutive free throws made when she hit 57 in a row early in the season. Her nine 3-point baskets in another game were one short of the school record.
