Woman critical after car hits tree

June 26, 2013

A 23-year-old Granbury woman injured in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning, just after midnight, is listed in critical condition in the ICU at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Melissa Medcalf suffered major head and internal chest injuries when her Chevrolet Aveo left the roadway on Paluxy Highway near the Hill City Highway intersection south of Tolar. The vehicle struck a tree, an official at the scene said.

As of press time, no information is available about a possible cause of the accident. No other vehicles were believed to have been involved in the crash.

Medcalf was flown by air ambulance from the scene to the Fort Worth hospital. First responders used a metal cutting tool to extricate her from the wreckage.

Medcalf is a graduate of Tolar High School.
