The Granbury School Board will consider replacing Pirate Stadium’s grass field with synthetic turf.
Superintendent Jim Largent said he was not a fan of synthetic turf but changed his mind after seeing the benefits.
“It gives access all the time to the field,” he said, pointing out that the band wouldn’t have to worry about muddy uniforms when marching in rainy weather. Also, more teams could use the field because of its durability, it was noted.
A price tag of $850,000 was mentioned at Monday night’s school board meeting, but some of the funding would be absorbed from energy savings such as improved lighting and less water usage, it was noted.
More discussion is expected at next month’s meeting when a representative from a synthetic turf company will address the board.
