Race, candlelight service planned to raise awareness

April 3, 2013

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and officials at the Paluxy River Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) are encouraging local residents to support the cause.

“We are trying to raise awareness about this devastating issue,” said Becky Logan, director of the local CAC.

CAC has activities planned in the coming weeks to raise awareness of child abuse. The following special events are scheduled for Hood County locations:

The CAC Blue Bolt Run is planned Saturday at Granbury Middle School. The race includes a 5K and 1-mile family fun run.

The fun run is $15 and will begin at 8 a.m.

The 5K registration is $27 in advance, or $30 on race day. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.

The start and finish line is at Granbury Middle School.

Texas Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) will be master of ceremonies. He will be presenting overall and age division awards after the race.

Pre-registration can be completed online by going to www.cac2helpkids.com or www.active.com.

Registration on race day begins at 7 a.m. at the event.

A candlelight service to honor child abuse victims is planned at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. The program takes places in the field behind the Hood County Library, 222 N. Travis St.

It is the mission of the CAC to promote the healing of abuse victims – one child at a time, Logan said. The Paluxy River CAC serves Hood, Somervell and Erath Counties.

Wednesday, April 10 is Go Blue Day in Texas. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue in honor of child abuse victims. The color blue is chosen to represent the bruises of an abused child. To reach the CAC for more information, call 817-573-0292.
