A shooting shortly before 9 p.m. Thanksgiving night left a man in critical condition in an area hospital, according to Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest during an incident in the 3900 block of Canyon Road, in the Rancho Brazos subdivision southeast of Granbury.
As of press time Friday, the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.
Deeds said on Friday morning that he was still “waiting on some answers. It is still under investigation. This will go to the grand jury, but the person that was shot was a suspect in the process of committing a felony.
“The shooter was protecting himself and family. The person that was flown to JPS with a gunshot wound to the chest was in critical condition in surgery last I heard.”
The gunshot victim was flown by air ambulance from a landing zone near the shooting site to a Fort Worth hospital, according to emergency scanner traffic.
Another man sustained an injury during the incident, but Deeds did not specify how that occurred, other than to say that it was not from a gunshot wound.
As of press time, the ages and places of residence of those involved had not been released.
